Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs recording new album
When we recently caught up with prolific pop rocker Matthew Sweet, he revealed to Paste he will reunite with Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles for the duo's second album of covers, due out sometime next year.
Their first collaboration, 2006's Under the Covers, Vol. 1, featured 15 covers from the 1960's (including songs by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Who and Neil Young). The second volume will fast forward into the next decade.
"Once we did the ‘60s covers, we started thinking we could do the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s. It’s just a fun and easy thing to do," Sweet said in the interview. "So now we’ve recorded about 40 songs for a ‘70s album that I think will come out next year. It’s hard to say what will go on it, but I can tell you that “All Good People” by Yes will be on the album, and Steve Howe plays guitar on the track! That’s one of our exciting tidbits."
Meanwhile, Sweet just released his 10th album, Sunshine Lies, and will tour in support of it come October. Hoff sings backup vocal on the album's titular track. To read more about Sweet, including his and Hoff's connection to Austin Powers, read the full interview here.
