Ah, smooth jams. Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, The Eagles: For some, the songs inspired slow dancing, and for others it’s the very music that brought them into this world. “Yacht Rock,” a surprise hit web TV series that spins the hilarious (fictional) tales behind those come-on tunes, gave the genre a new name and also inspired DJ nights across the globe. Chicago was no exception.
Local DJs STV SLV and Bald Eagle launched the Stay Smooth DJ series two summers ago, and on Saturday, Sept. 9th, its 10th event will be hosted by the stars of “Yacht Rock” themselves, “Hollywood Steve” (Steve Huey) and “Kenny Loggins” (Hunter Stair). On board Columbia Yacht Club's Abegweit in Monroe Harbor, the entire web series will be screened, yacht rock gems will be spun and cover band Haulin Boats will play.Admission is $40, and includes beer, well drinks and Tommy Bahama rum cocktails from 7-10 p.m. For tickets, visit Schubas.
For those not in the know about “Yacht Rock,” this about sums it up:
