Smashing Pumpkins announce 20th Anniversary Tour, live DVD

Just when Chicagoans were beginning to think Billy Corgan doesn't love us anymore, the Smashing Pumpkins have announced their 20th Anniversary Tour with four dates in the Windy City-- one for each of the times they've shunned us on previous tours. (The closest the Pumpkins have come to playing in Chicago since announcing their reunion three years ago right here was this summer's appearance at Indiana's Horseshoe Casino, which isn't just kinda-not-Chicago; it's not even in Illinois.)

But hey, we forgive them for the geography mishap: They’ve been really busy, what with Corgan’s Guitar Hero duties, touring the world (minus Chicago) and filming a two-DVD set, If All Goes Wrong, comprising their residencies in San Francisco and Asheville, North Carolina (also not Chicago). The DVD, which hits shelves on November 11th, contains a 105-minute documentary with footage of the aforementioned residencies, and includes interviews with the band, fans, and journalists.

The tour kicks off in November as well, and, according to a press release, “The Pumpkins are coming prepared with completely different set lists in each of the multi-night engagements with no songs being repeated over the course of the two night run. Night #1 is being called ‘Black Sunshine,’ while night #2 will be dubbed ‘White Crosses.’ A special two-night ticket bundle will be available for all multi-night engagements.”

We suggest Nights 3 and 4 in Chicago be titled, respectively, “Where’s D’arcy Wretzky?” and “Where’s James Iha?" as thus far neither has participated in a Pumpkins reunions show along with founding members Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin.
