Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon makes mom-clothes cool

Text
Sonic Youth bassist Kim Gordon has launched a new clothing line, Mirror/Dash. The endeavor is named after a side project with her husband, SY frontman Thurston Moore, and seeks to fill a void in the fashion market. “There’s a need for clothes for cool moms,” Gordon told The New York Times' Fashion & Style section.

The brand's first release (pictured above) is the the "Hardy Jacket." The "military-style wool jacket inspired by Françoise Hardy" is available in a limited edition (just 50 jackets), and sells only in four sizes (2, 4, 6 and 8) at $415.

While the "Hardy" makes its way into trendy, Manhattanite mom closets, Gordon will be busy with the fall's musical appointments. On Sept. 26, she plays Saratoga with Phantom Orchard and Free Kitten's Yoshimi P-We. Then Sonic Youth will play three concerts in Italy to celebrate the the opening of "Sonic Youth Etc.: Sensational Fix," a biographical museum exhibit with an international agenda. In addition, the band's recently signed alliance with indie Matador Records has their fanbase expecting a 2009 album. Check out SY's complete schedule here.
