The Boss has been signed as next year's Super Bowl halftime headliner. The XLIII game will be hosted in Tampa, FL on Feb. 1, and will broadcast in more than 230 countries.
This means money for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, as
the SB halftime show is consistently the most-watched musical performance of the year. The 2008 event boasted almost 150 million viewers, its main act—Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers—enjoying a significant sales increase after the performance.
Since the Oct. 2007 release of Magic, Springsteen has completed a 100-show world tour. There's been no news of a 2009 album yet, but producer Brendan O'Brien confirmed that the band is sitting on several tracks that didn't make it onto the Magic album.
The Boss joins recent headliners Prince, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones and (who could forget the 2004 halftime fiasco?) Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson. You can check out Tom Petty's Jan. performance here.

Where Have All The Weird Girls Gone?…

The beautiful thing about the boss is that the boss is the boss in everyone's mind. Maybe this is why he is playing for halftime. Branding is coming up more and more for these half time events. Although after the jackson/timberlake deal maybe they are opting for those who don't need to get people talking about some...."come look at me" scheme.
What I would like to know is, what is the typical increase in sales after playing at the half time show.
