For months now, Guitar Hero diehards have been hanging on every bread crumb of information released about World Tour, the forthcoming generation of their favorite video game. We knew about Hendrix, Ozzy and a handful of other artists on the track list. But now we have the press release in hand, and it includes 86 songs on-disk, featuring artists like R.E.M., Michael Jackson, Metallica, Coldplay, Nirvana, Interpol, Foo Fighters, Billy Idol, Beastie Boys and Dinosaur Jr., among others.
Tool boasts the largest number of songs. Fans will be able to play “Parabola,” “Vicarious,” and the Grammy Award-winning “Schism” in a special venue which the band helped to design. The exclusive motif will highlight "the art style that has become a staple in their music videos, live shows and album artwork."
Former Police frontman Sting lends his likeness to an avatar, along with 1981 Police song “Demolition Man.” Sting joins the World Tour-character company of Ozzy Osborne, Jimi Hendrix and Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan.
This installment of Hero comes with a microphone and drum pad, like its competitor Rock Band, which will also premiere a new version this fall. Afficianados can look forward to the new five-track-capable studio mode, as well as online and offline game modes, including an eight-player "Battle of the Bands" head-to-head competition.
World Tour will be released for Xbox 360, Wii and Playstations 2 and 3 on Oct. 26. Watch the trailer here.

I am giddy like a goth schoolgirl that Tool will be on the next GH. If only Forty Six & 2 were one of the songs.
