Hey, party people. Hope the first week of September is treating you quite well. After a cookout-laden day off to start the week, PasteMagazine.com was back on the case in the name of Signs of Life in music, film and culture (Hey, that would be a nice tagline for a magazine!), and here's what we came up with, asterisk style:
* Band of the Week: Golden Shoulders, a group with Kinksian flourish and a seemingly never-ending rotating cast of musicians.
* Reviews: We cover I.O.U.S.A., Momma's Man, Everybody Wants to Be Italian, The Order of Myths, The Longshots (Fred Durst's directorial debut!) and Sukiyaki Western Django in film, Seun Kuti, Young Jeezy, Bruce Robison, The Chemical Brothers, Debashish Bhattacharya, Giant Sand, Theresa Anderson, Brian Wilson, Rodney Crowell and Sarah McLachlan in music, Myst and The Political Machine 2008 in games, and Greg Atwan & Evan Lushing's Facebook tome in books. See? I told you we were stepping up our review game. And there is only more to come.
* Features: Artists featured this week included The Duhks, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Rainn Wilson.
* News: There's always interesting stuff going on in the world of entertainment, and of course this week was no exception. We reported on a number of people and things, including Bob Dylan, Guillermo del Toro, Talib Kweli, John Lennon, Kanye West, Mugison, Bill Melendez (RIP), WXPN, Stephenie Meyer, Great Lake Swimmers, Santogold, Inglorious Bastards, Amazon.com, The Dark Knight, Smashing Pumpkins, Broken Embraces, Ben Folds Five, 30 Rock, Ron Sexsmith, Chuck Palahniuk, The Whispertown 2000 (via Gillian Welch), Watchmen, Goldfrapp, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Rage Against the Machine, M.I.A., Bruce Springsteen, Sufjan Stevens, DonLaFontaine (RIP), It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Torche, Liam Finn and so much more.
That about does it for this week. If you'd like to see anything particular on the site in the future, please weigh in with a comment below or shoot an e-mail to the news e-mail address, which is also below. Thanks for reading, talk soon...
