Weezer drummer Pat Wilson recently told Billboard that once the band finishes up its North American tour in late October, it will head directly into the studio to record its seventh album.
Wilson goes on to say this newfound creative freedom will allow Weezer to be more prolific, and narrow the gap between its album release dates. "Now that we've got more writers, we don't have to wait for Rivers to have a bunch of songs he's happy with. We used to take forever to make a record, then tour on it forever and be burnt out and not do anything for two years. This is a lot better."
To play devil's advocate: Weezer has already released four albums this decade (The Green Album, Maladroit, Make Believe and The Red Album). That's an average of a record every two years. The as-yet untitled new album (which Wilson says might end up being another self-titled affair) will be the band's fifth. Regardless, fans can wait with bated breath to see if its beloved Weezer returns to its glory-day success when the album is released sometime in 2009.
