Alejandro Escovedo unleashes Live Animal, tours

Rock needs its veterans, if only to keep this latest generation of blog-entitled bands in check. Much as he has since his Nuns/Rank and File/True Believers days, Alejandro Escovedo continues to grit out a career on record and on the road, Hepatitis C be damned. Dude's a throwback in every sense of the word, the kind of guitar-slingin' professor that the kids ought to take notes from.

Okay, 'nuff respects paid. Now the news: Prof. Escovedo is releasing a second look at several of the songs off of his latest release, the Paste-approved Real Animal. The new project, entitled Live Animal, is an EP of material recorded live at Sirius Satellite Radio studios in New York. Material includes tracks "Always A Friend," "Sister Lost Soul," "People (We're Only Gonna Live So Long)," "Chelsea Hotel '78," and, of course, the Iggy Pop tribute "Real As An Animal."
