Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele preps Paw Tracks debut

We first alerted you to Dent May, he of Magnificent Ukulele-wielding prowess, back in the cold, long-forgotten February of Ought Eight. He made an appearance (with his charming, apparently-now-unavailable digital EP, A Brush With Velvet) in the rEPort of Paste 39, but who could've predicted that he would've been called up to the big leagues just seven months later as a part of our Best of What's Next feature?

Well, maybe we could have, but that's kind of sort of not the point. The point is that Mr. May and his MagUke grabbed the attention of the members of Animal Collective while they were in May's hometown of Oxford, Miss., recording Merriweather Post Pavilion at Sweet Tea Studios. The rest, as they say, is history. May now finds himself signed to the record label AC started, Paw Tracks, with his full-length debut, The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele, due Feb. 3.

Ah, yes...the cold, yet-to-be-realized February of Ought Nine. In the months until then, all you fans of Jens Lekman/hipster glasses/Beirut/ukulele/Caetano Veloso/fun can satiate yourselves in a number of ways, that number being three:

1. Head on over to May's MySpace page and listen to a few tracks, including the album version of "Meet Me in the Garden" and his rad cover of Prince's "When You Were Mine."
2. Watch this rather hilarious video (which includes, if you look closely with the right set of eyes, members of fellow Oxford, Mississippians, Colour Revolt) for May's song "Oh, Paris!"
3. Catch May at one of the following dates (this only really works if you live in Georgia, North Carolina, New York or possibly Maryland, but beggars, as they say, don't get the right to choose the things that they do and stuff):
