Guitar Hero: Metallica officially announced

Guitar Hero: Metallica has been a pretty poorly kept secret, ever since an earnings report from Activision revealed that the company was planning a title akin to Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for the thrash wizards. Waiting is the hardest part though, so Guitar Hero junkies got a quick fix with the opportunity to shred some Death Magnetic while they waited for the big score.

The wait is over, true believers: Guitar Hero: Metallica is officially on the way. Hidden as an Easter egg in the newly-released Guitar Hero: World Tour is a trailer for the game, which invites the player to "unleash your metal god" while Metallica's classic "Master of Puppets" screams in the background. "Ride the Lightning, 2009" is the only clue given as to when it will arrive.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has nothing but kind words to say about music video games, as he recently told Blabbermouth.net, suffering from what seems to be a midlife crisis: "It works on the front of sharing the experiences with your kids. It works on exposing your kids to music. And it also helps Dad a little bit, because all of a sudden Dad's in the video game, and that helps balance the perception of Dad when Dad spends a lot of time talking about doing homework and eating vegetables and all this other stuff, you know what I mean?"

Even metal gods feel uncool sometimes. Check out the trailer, and don't forget that Metallica recently embarked on an arena-destroying North American tour:
