We have a Resident Evil: Apocalypse. We have a Resident Evil: Extinction.
That sounds like it pretty much covers it, but apparently not if you’re
Paul W.S. Anderson. The wayward filmmaker (most recently behind the
violent Jason Statham contraption Death Race) directed the first Resident Evil and penned the sequels, and he now says he will likely write a new one after his next project.
Although Extinction came with a
promotional promise that it would end the franchise, the news is unsurprising given the fine profits that Sony has made from the three original films. Studios have
long been known to resuscitate dead franchises when it suits their
bottom lines, especially in the horror genre, in which 1984's Friday the 13th:
The Final Chapter was promptly followed by seven more sequels.
There's no word on the plot details, but
we’re going to guess it involves more zombie types and assorted mutants out to chow down on another troupe of unfortunate humans.
