If American voters valued musical taste as much as political prestige, Barack Obama would win a landslide presidential victory this November. On that note, Andrew Bird, The Fiery Furnaces, Guster and others (including some "special secret musical guests") will play at the Barack Rock fundraiser tomorrow at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg to help Obama and VP nominee Joe Biden on their way to the White House.
Comedians Eugene Mirman, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Bisi and Heather
Lawless will perform stand up in-between the musical sets, and the
venue will also host an "Obama Room" where attendees can watch the evening's
debate, register to vote and volunteer for Obamacentric campaigning.
Pitchfork has already guessed that the special guests will
be none other than Franz Ferdinand; the Scottish post-punk quartet will
perform the following evening at the Music Hall, so it wouldn't be a
long shot for lead singer (and recent Brooklyn resident) Alex Kapranos
to join in on the rally.
Tickets are $40 and can be purchased here. All proceeds go to the Obama/Biden campaign. Meanwhile, we're still waiting for, say, Kid Rock, Ricky Skaggs and Johnny Ramone to even the score and play a secret McCain/Palin rally at the Mercury Lounge.
