In support of his forthcoming full-lenth, Noble Beast, whistling multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird will tour the U.S. in January and February. The tour launches with Bird's first-ever headline performance at Carnegie Hall, on Jan. 28.
Fat Possum will release the album the day before the tour commences, Jan. 27, and it will soon be followed by an instrumental record, Bird says: "I think I have a healthy distrust of words. The whole pretense of
writing a song with lyrics is just opens up the possibility for
ingenuine things. A melody is pure. Lyrics can be corrupted."
He characterizes Noble Beast as "kind of a steamy, mossy, fecund sort of rainforest. Not like a tropical rainforest. More of a, uh, Pacific Northwestern rainforest."
