Jay Bennett has put off the would-have-been October release of Kicking at the Perfumed Air to premiere Whatever Happened I Apologize. The 10-track record, which he describes as "stark, stripped down, and acoustic based," is available now for free, via RockProper.com.
Both albums were recorded at Pieholden Suite Sound, Bennett's new Champagne, Ill.-based studio. His intent with Whatever Happened was to create without second-guessing.
"All of the vocals are done live to my own acoustic guitar
accompaniment, so it has some 'warts,' but, in my effort to not forsake
integrity for technical perfection, the album ended up feeling more
honest, immediate, naked, and cohesive to me," he said in a statement. "I am very proud of presenting myself without my typical voluminous
bells and whistles. I am left wondering why I haven’t done this more
often in the past."
Bennett has a handful of performance dates coming up in early December, all on the West coast. Download Whatever Happened I Apologize here, and check out ticket info on Jay-Bennet.com.
