A couple months back we mentioned that Jason Reitman was working on getting George Clooney on board (rimshot!) for his forthcoming dramedy, Up in the Air. Now, per Variety, comes news that The Departed's Vera Farmiga will star opposite Clooney in the film.
Clooney will play a human-resources executive whose fondest pastime involves collecting frequent-flyer miles. He's gunning for the millionth mile and pursues this goal zealously. Meanwhile, his personal life falls apart because he's always in the air. Farmiga will portray a businesswoman who becomes Clooney's romantic interest after several meetings in airports and hotels.
Reitman has had his eye on this project for a while. He adapted the screenplay from the Walter Kirn novel of the same name, and the recruitment of Clooney and Farmiga means A-list production status.
The Thank You for Smoking director shot into the mainstream eye last year with the word-of-mouth indie hit Juno. This time around he's chosen to pursue a more commercial feature, with Paramount Pictures and Montecito.
Shooting begins at the end of February, in St. Louis, Miami and Las Vegas.
