Judson Claiborne residency at Hideout commences tonight

Fans of local alt-country group Low Skies and folk music in general, rejoice: This November, Mondays are made for you. Beginning tonight, you can catch former Low Skies singer-songwriter Chris Salveter's newest act, Judson Claiborne, at the band's month-long Hideout residency. Judson Claiborne's thoughtful, sweet folk emotes a simple nostalgic melancholy that builds upon Low Skies' gothic Americana blues, keeping in the same spirit of simple melodies from front porch jam sessions.

Though Judson Claiborne just released its debut, Before Midnight Scholar, in June, you can expect to hear new material from the band's now-in-production second album, Time and Temperature, this month. Salveter is looking forward to debuting the new songs for an audience. “We've been hard at work recording in the studio and writing at our rehearsal space,” Salveter tells Paste:Local. “It will be nice to share the work with the community and get some feedback.”

There will be a series of “multidisciplinary variations” for each performance, with the band playing “new versions of old tunes, old versions of new tunes, some covers, and guests playing in instruments that I can't pronounce the name of,” Salveter says.

A former employee and longtime patron, it's perhaps no suprise that Hideout is Salveter's favorite venue, "hands down."

“The owners and staff have big bright hearts and are dedicated to spreading love and beautiful music with intense passion and conviction,” he explains. “They're an institution that engages their community politically and will throw a benefit for you if you get hit on your bike and have to pay some emergency room bills.”

Come hungry and ready to dance Monday nights. Some “very special friends” will be DJing and there will be homemade pie to go with drummer Jamie Carter's secret cinnamon coffee.

Judson Claiborne's November accompanying acts:
Nov. 3: New Church Of Ease, Jeff Harms
Nov. 10: Puerto Muerto, Mikey Peterson
Nov. 17: Sonoi, Improper Dump
Nov. 24: Horse's Ha, Leroy Bach
