Vampires are real. Shape-shifters are real. Psychics are real. And, so we're told, are werewolves and more creatures than we can imagine. About the only thing that's fake in the True Blood universe are bayou witchdoctors, and the exorcisms they perform. Tara learns this sad truth after encountering her exorcist restocking shelves at a drug store, and just like that her personal demons return.

But Sam is a shape-shifter with the ability to turn into dogs, cats or birds, though flying's kind of rough. Humans are too complex, or at least that's what he tells Sookie. He also tells her that there are thousands or tens of thousands of other "shifters" in the world and that werewolves are nasty, vile creatures—though they share the same trait of not being able to control their shifting during a full moon.

Vampires, too, are turning out to be quite vile, as their magistrate over all of North America punishes Bill for killing another vampire who was trying to kill Sookie "his pet" by forcing him to turn an innocent teenage girl into a vampire. This won't bode well for his relationship with Sookie, who was attacked in a darkened Merlotte's by the town's killer—whose identity remains unknown.

Plus Jason's girlfriend has become Amy the psychotic vampire slayer, and a vampire from Bill's past The Maenad has returned come to the neighborhood. The world of True Blood is getting more and more interesting as the Nov. 23 season finale nears.
