Atom Egoyan's Adoration to open in early May

Atom Egoyan is best-known for his non-linear films focused on alienation. He's perhaps equally well-known for being really Canadian, and is in fact one third of what I like to call The Canadian Contingent, which is a filmmaking/crime-fighting supergroup with fellow canucks David Cronenberg and Guy Maddin that I just made up. Together they travel to high-profile film festivals to fight against their arch-nemeiss, the evil master of cliches Dr. Commercial Success.

Ahem. My fan-fiction aside, Egoyan's Adoration has just been announced for a release in early May. The film premiered earlier this year at Cannes, where it was in primary contention and received the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury, awarded to "honour works of artistic quality which witnesses to the power of film to reveal the mysterious depths of human beings through what concerns them, their hurts and failings as well as their hopes." The film is about a man's obsession that he's the descendant of two historical figures, and stars Rachel Blanchard, Scott Speedman and Devon Bostick.
