Battlestar Galactica Review: Webisode #1

The Face of the Enemy
It's been a long time since Battlestar Galactica's fourth season ended with the Galactica fleet finally discovering earth, only to be underwhelmed by its apacolyptic condition. A really long time. I've tried to get my sci-fi fixes from lesser vessels like Fringe and Sanctuary, but I missed Paste's favorite frackin' show. Today, like a thirsty man in the desert finding an ounce of Big K cola, my thirst was quenched. I mean cruelly teased.
The webisode, which picks up days after the Commander Adama scooped up
that first handful of Earth, stars Allesandro Juliani as Lt. Felix
Gaeta, one of the show's more underrated and beaten down characters.
He's nearly been tossed out an airlock for aiding the Cylons when he
was actually feeding information to the resistence. He's been shot in
the leg by Sam Anders. And he's watched Dr. Cottle amputate his leg
without anesthetia. And, we learn in the first two minutes of the
four-minute webisode, that he's also been living in the closet.
Gaeta is sent by Col. Tigh to get some R&R, and the boy who began
as the series' eagle scout is met in a corrider by his drug-dealing
boyfriend, and they share a kiss. Then his ship is forced to jump by a
pair of Cylons and its crew (including a pair of #8 "skin jobs") is separated from the fleet. It's the slimmest
of appetizers. It hardly takes longer to watch than it does to
summarize. But the story will continue on Dec. 15, and Jan. 16 brings
the feast.
