Ridley Scott’s Nottingham just got a lot more sensible—and a lot less cool.
Unsurprisingly, the rumors Scott started that Russell Crowe
would play both the Sheriff of Nottingham and Robin Hood aren't true, at least not precisely. In what could be a major
spoiler for the forthcoming film (as in, don’t read if you don’t want
to know), producer Brian Grazer told MTV that Crowe would actually play only
Robin Hood—but in this version, Robin triumphs over the Sheriff of
Nottingham, kills him, and then assumes his identity.
It isn’t clear how exactly that will play out, but it puts to rest the
wild possibility Scott suggested, which would have seen Crowe in his
trickiest role in years. Alas, it seems as if we'll have a more
traditional story, but with a pedigree like this, it’s hard to complain too
much. The film is set to bow Nov. 6 of next year.
