On the heels of her massive success in Twilight
(she plays the lead role of Bella, for all you non-16-year olds), the Hollywood Reporter
has announced that Kristen Stewart will play Joan Jett
in The Runaways.
The biopic will be written and directed by video director Floria Sigismondi with John and Art Linson producing in association with River Road Entertainment's Bill Pohlad.
The film will follow The Runaways (Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Sandy West, Jackie Fox and Cherie Currie) from their "meteoric rise as teenagers to their dissolution and
disillusionment." Cultivated in 1975 by Kim Fowlery, the band started out as a novelty act but became much more. "The girls
ended up proving to be serious and influential musicians with songs
like 'Cherry Bomb.' The band lasted about four years together,
falling apart over management and money issues."
Producers are hoping for a 2009 start date but have agreed to work around Stewart's commitment to the Twilight sequel New Moon, also being scheduled for shooting sometime in the first-quarter of the new year.
