As previously reported, The Dark Knight video game was in the works. However, due to various technical difficulties and licensing rights, the game project collapsed.
According to Kotaku Australia, the game was under a strict 18-month deadline because of the upcoming expiration of EA's Batman license. The video game was going to be an open-world game and it was originally planned to be released along with the movie in July 2008. However, because of delays in production its release was moved to coincide with the DVD release in December 2008.
By September, the game had not reached beta yet because of various technical glitches. At that point, it was impossible for the game to be ready on time and use the license before it expired in December. After reviewing the situation, plans for the game have been halted indefinitely.
