Depeche Mode to unleash Universe on April 21

Depeche Mode, recently announced the April 21 release of its newest album, Sounds of the Universe. This marks the band's 12th release, following 2005's Playing the Angel.

Billed as the trio's most "dazzling and diverse album in decades," Sounds of the Universe was recorded in Santa Monica and New York City and produced by Ben Hillier (U2, Smashing Pumpkins). According to a press release, Depeche Mode returned to their roots, using vintage analog synthesizers and drum machines "to conjure up the retro-futuristic arrangements featured on the album."

Appropriately, the group has also announced its "Tour of the Universe," which will take Depeche Mode to Europe and beyond this summer. Check back for details on the U.S. leg.
