Joaquin Phoenix documentary to track budding rap career

January 20, 2009  |  8:33am
Whether Joaquin Phoenix's rap career is successful (or goes down in, wait for it, a ring of fire!) the whole episode will be recorded for posterity in a documentary shot by Casey Affleck.

Filming for the project began with Phoenix's first live performance in a Las Vegas lounge Jan. 16. Phoenix announced that he would never make another film last spring and said that he would instead focus on making music.

It may come as a surprise to some that Phoenix, who got an Oscar nomination for his performance as Johnny Cash in Walk The Line, chose rap as his genre of choice, but it appears to be true and Sean Combs is set to produce Phoenix's album.
