According to Canadian rapper Drake, Lil Wayne is making good on his claim from song "Ride for my N----s" that "the sky is the limit." After owning everything from the mixtape scene to Grammy nominations, Weezy appears to be moving on and will be releasing a complete rock album in 2009.
It’s not too surprising, considering the former Hot Boy’s line to MTV: "I ain't rapping no more, I'm singing ... I'm about to get some dance moves.”
In true Weezy-form, a few tracks from the upcoming album have leaked onto YouTube. “Yes,” featuring Pharrell, is a grungy, base-fueled romp through the rappers' tongue-in-cheek rhymes: “My name is Weezy F. Baby and the F is for phenomenal.” In "Red Rum," Wayne actually sings, albeit through a sea of manipulation, with vocals sounding like they've been filtered through tin foil.
"People see the guitars and they wanna call it rock and roll," he told MTV. "I plug up the bass, I plug up the electric, I plug up the acoustic—it's not really rock and roll, it's just great music I'm doing right now."
Meanwhile, Weezy has more plans in store, of course. The horror film fan said he plans to pen his own scary movie...just as soon as he works up the nerve. "I always think I be trippin'," he said to MTV. "Like, you think you're too good. Shut your stupid ass up, you can't write no movie. I always sit down and be like, 'I'm gonna write me a movie.' Then about five minutes later I be like, 'You really think you're a little genius, don't you.' "This wouldn't be Lil Wayne's first venture into the film world. The Carter, a documentary featuring the rapper, has multiple screenings at the Sundance.
