Coachella, Bonnaroo, more festivals offer layaway option

The music industry is taking a cue from the retail world this summer. Due to the ailing economy, the public's empty wallets, and a hefty $269 price tag, Coachella promotor, Goldenvoice, will offer fans something that at one point was only available in stores: layaway.

USA Today reports that fans will have the option to pay half down for the three-day pass, and the rest on April 1, or pay 10 percent followed by equal installments on March 1 and April 1. These options aren't available for $99 single-day passes to the southern California festival that will take place April 17-19.

The layaway option was used last year at Bonnaroo and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival. This year the All Points West Music & Arts Festival in Jersey City, Rothbury Festival in Michigan and the Mile High Music Festival in Commerce City, Colo., will be added to that list.
