Platinum Dunes, the production company through which Michael Bay produced remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hitcher and now Friday the 13th, has confirmed plans to remake Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street. The project had long been in development, with a script already in the can and production set to start in the first half of next year.
As with Texas Chainsaw and Friday the 13th before it, A Nightmare on Elm Street fashioned a genre icon in Freddy Kruger, though the franchise is unique in that it had consistently retained the same actor, Robert Englund, to play the part. But this remake will be the first of the series’ eight movies that will recast the role, a decision made in part because the new film will strip away the character’s more flamboyant elements in favor of straight horror.Englund, who turned 60 last year, will likely land a cameo role.

Further proof that Hollywood has, indeed, run out of ideas.
They've now gotten too lazy to even /pretend/ they have new ideas. You could do a series "inspired by..." but instead, now you just do a "reboot..."
I'm sorry but Robert Englund IS Freddy Krueger. Plain and simple.
