Every so often, a tiny shred of news is all it takes for fans of an artist to rejoice, breathe in the air and hold their heads a little higher. This is one of those times for Strokes fans, as drummer Fabrizio Moretti told BBC 6 Music, the band's three-year hiatus has officially come to an end.
Specifically, the New York garage rockers are prepping their first album since 2006's so-so critically-received First Impressions of Earth. According to Moretti, frontman Julian Casablancas and guitarist Nick Valensi have begun writing new material for the upcoming album. When that'll actually materialize into a collection of recorded material is anybody's guess, but hey, it's a start. Moretti, who also has a side project called Little Joy, said he, too, will be joining the process. "I have to go back to New York to work with The Strokes for the next record in February," he said.
He also added that The Strokes are "the kind of band that it’s not finished until everyone’s in one
room and everyone’s got their parts perfectly. We’re a very mechanical
band."
It has begun.
