David Lynch joins Twitter

David Lynch joins Twitter

The great thing about David Lynch is that whenever you think that something's too weird, even for him, he sets out to prove you wrong. Sometimes this comes out in his movies. You think to yourself, "That Lynch guy's pretty strange, but not even he would make a studio sitcom starring surreal, non-speaking bunny rabbits." Then you enter the theater and there they are, freaking you out in ways too difficult to explain. It's a patented David Lynch Moment™.

Today's DLM comes courtesy of his Twitter account. It's been around since Jan. 6, but given the relative insanity level in most of his posts, common sense made most people assume it was someone else posting under his name, like with Tina Fey or countless other celebrities. Then again, this is Lynch we're talking about, so that kind of common sense flies right out the window. On Feb. 19's daily weather announcement, Lynch confirmed that the person behind the cryptic posts is in fact him. Check it out here:

That's right, those posts, primarily weather-related in a way that seems to imply that those videos aren't just an elaborate joke but actually a constant concern of his, are authored by Lynch.

Here are a few of our favorite posts:

12:06 p.m., Jan. 15: For those asking, I do write my own updates and my assistant posts them for me.

1:15 p.m., Jan. 15: Thought of the day: The individual is cosmic.

3:12 p.m., Jan. 23: Sorry there's no video report today. It's raining and too depressing.  The Daily Report will be back on Monday, hopefully with good news.

12:22 p.m.,  Jan. 26: Thought of the Day: Water the root and enjoy the fruit.

6:04 p.m., Jan. 28: Have a nice evening everyone.

3:26 p.m., Jan. 29: Thought of the Day: don't tell me you've never wondered about the Unified Field.

5:18 p.m., Jan. 30: Thought of the Day: Have a great weekend everyone.

To quote The Simpsons, it just goes on like this. It's hard to decide which are stranger: the completely banal entries or the absolutely bonkers ones. The mixture of the two side by side is what makes his Twitter feed not only a wonderful encapsulation of the man himself, but also one of the more entertaining celebrity feeds on the web. Sure, it's not the most intimate feed out there, but combined with his weather report and some good old fashioned Lynch-brand coffee, it makes for quite a daily dose of weirdness.
