Star Wars and the original Battlestar Galactica have more in common than you might realize. When ABC produced the show in the late 1970s, they brought on George Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic crew (though they weren't called that at the time) to run special effects. Lucas agreed, but only on the stipulation that none of Star Wars' special effects be used. Things didn't work out as planned and, after a slew of lawsuits, Galactica never really recovered. We probably should be thankful; had Galactica been a smash success, it might not have been rebooted into one of the smartest and most compelling shows on television today.
You may be wondering where this is going. If the new trilogy of Star Wars movies can be said to be the fluffy, substanceless doppelganger to the genre-defining sci-fi of the first trilogy, the 1978 version of Battlestar Galactica is a shallow reflection of the Peabody-winning reimagined version. Well, classic Galactica may be making a comeback of its own: Universal Pictures is in negotiations for Glen A. Larson to create a movie version of the TV show he created.
The movie will, necessarily, be totally unrelated to the nearly-concluded reimagined series on Sci-Fi. That's all we know on the movie for now, but just think: isn't the possibility of a little more Dirk Benedict in your life exciting?

Ron Moore's BSG is a abomination. Comprised of soap opera-esque revelations mistaken for "depth" by virtually illiterate SF morons. The production design is off the shelf at Home depot. The acting is either wooden and lifeless or so overhammed that it would make Miss Piggy embarassed. The continuity is an abysmal mess. I watched one episode where two warriors were supposedly hiding from the cylons by sitting next to a campfire in the rain. Golly, surely no better way to hide from beings DESIGNED to find and kill humans than that! It seems one could defeat the cylons on Moore's show by simply sleeping with their best friend instead of having to defeat them militarily. I find Moore's BSG to be completely consistent with other SF channel fare, such as MANSQUITO. Tell me, what other science fiction was on TV at the time of the original? Virtually none. BSG opened the door to SF on television again after the 60's. For that achievement alone, it deserves it's own movie.
Are you kidding? If you love cheese then yes, the 78 version was great. Laser guns, robot dogs, multi-armed aliens etc.. The new BSG is much darker and much more of a drama.
Yes the original series was so "militarily" accurate...with the fluffy robotic dog and all...oh also love the one episode where one cylon raider shoots a battlestar with two lasers resulting in the battlestar blowing up! Who are you kidding!? Have you even sat down and watched the new BSG re-imagined pilot episode? Do yourself a favor and watch it. The new series is amazing and blows away the 1978 crap fest. Cylons derived from a dead lizard race?! Now that's laughable story sorry. The current BSG series is great because it's remotely believable.
If they make this movie it will FLOP, plain and simple.
ho
but the new one is soooo great, not. they are eather drinking or have sex all the time with no humor. also can any one count the times that some one is blown out into space. It will be great to get back to the blasters and the space battles also they don't have to have the robot dog , i'm sure boxy is out grown him by now, stupid. Stupid is the perfect word for the new show first you have cyclons that are 90% of the galactica and then you have the real cyclons. What happen to the humans, are they all dead? so where is the war? and you think the new one is so great, maybe everyone who likes the new Battlestar galactica should be sent out an air lock that what the show love to do to people and cyclons oops, my mistake everyone on the show is a cyclon. Boy I'm really glad they never found earth also it will be a GREAT DAY TO SEE THE NEW GALACTICA BLOW UP!!!! at least in the classic one the ship stayed intack.
I'm all for the REAL BATTLESTAR GALACTICA coming soon to a theater near me.
Ok Richard Hatch, no more internet for you today!
