The Dark Knight
isn’t quite done generating new milestones. On Sunday, of course, it took home two Oscars (including Heath Ledger's second posthumous award), which followed an announcement on Friday that the film had finally crossed the $1 billion mark in worldwide revenues.
It’s only the fourth movie in history to pull in those kind of numbers,
after Titanic, the first Pirates of the Caribbean sequel and the third
Lord of the Rings. The milestone was reached in part by a calculated
re-release of the movie last month by Warner Bros.
The movie was released on DVD in North America in December, when it sold six million copies in its first day of release.
