According to Pylon's Facebook page, guitarist Randy Bewley suffered a heart attack while driving on Monday night and was rushed off to the ICU. In an e-mail to Creative Loafing, vocalist Vanessa Hay wrote "His van drifted off the road and tipped over. No other people or vehicles were involved. Rescue workers did CDP at the scene and he was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center." A source close to the band says Bewley is currently in a coma.

Pylon's 2007 reissue Gyrate Plus may have helped to bring the Athenian troupe back onto the national map, but the rock quartet has been garnering local fame since 1978, when Bewley and bassist Michael Lachowski founded the band. They debuted with drummer Curtis Crowe and vocalist Vanessa Briscoe (now Vanessa Hay) in 1979. Although the group disbanded in '91, they reunited for a New Year's Day show in 2005, and have been playing in and around Athens and touring ever since.
