Röyksopp to send Junior out into the world this Spring

Röyksopp to send Junior out into the world this Spring

It's been four interminable years since Röyksopp, the electro-princes of Norway, released a full-length album. But chill-out dens the world over can release a puff of smoke and an underwhelming "hurrah," as this year marks the release of Junior, the duo's third LP, as well as a smattering of European tour dates.

Although Röyksopp are marquee idols in Scandinavia, most casual U.S. listeners would recognize the tunes of Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge from either the start-up sounds in Mac OS X Panther or the Geico commercial in which a Caveman™ glides by a Geico Caveman™ ad while on a moving walkway. Both songs ("Eple" and "Remind Me," respectively) are from 2001's award-winning Melody A.M.

The duo works very well with others, including Erlend Øye and Karin Dreijer (The Knife), on Melody A.M. and 2005's The Understanding; both Dreijer and Bel Canto vocalist Anneli Drecker reappear on Junior. The new album also features a pair of Swedish chantueses: Robyn and Paste favorite Lykke Li.

Junior doesn't hit store shelves (how quaint!) until March 24 (March 23 in Europe), but Röyksopp fiends can get a fix by clicking here to download "Happy Birthday," the group's tribute to its 10-year anniversary.

Here's the snow-filled, animated clip for "Poor Leno" (from Melody A.M.):
