Update: Touch and Go Records releases statement

Update: Touch and Go's owner, Corey Rusk, released an official statement yesterday informing the media that Touch and Go Distribution will cease operations, but the label will continue to sign bands and release albums. Touch and Go Distribution has done business with a host of prestigious independent labels like Merge, Kill Rock Stars and Suicide Squeeze. Rusk writes: "It is the end of a grand chapter in Touch and Go’s history, but we also know that good things can come from new beginnings."

Chicago's indie powerhouse, Touch and Go Records, is preparing to close its doors. It will soon be departing for music heaven to join its Bay Area compatriot Lookout! Records.

Over the last 10 years, Touch and Go has held the status of an abandoned mother hen of sorts, crafting the talent of notable bands like Butthole Surfers, the Jesus Lizard, Girls Against Boys, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TV on the Radio, then watching them wander off to major labels. All the while, the label released excellent music by the likes of Calexico, Ted Leo, Slint and countless others.

This week, the label released Mi Ami's Watersports and Sholi's self-titled album. Touch and Go will continue to work catalogue releases, but will not issue new albums. The label's official statement on the matter is forthcoming.
