Sadly, The Dark Knight video game production halted earlier this year and we were left with no game companion to the record-breaking movie. Batman has yet to have a truly great game, but according to MTV Multiplayer's sneak peek, Batman: Arkham Asylum might be it.
Batman: Arkham Asylum takes a different route. The title is currently in development at Rocksteady Studios, and surprisingly, it will be published by Eidos. Electronic Arts was in charge of The Dark Knight game since EA only has the rights to the movies. Eidos on the other hand, has the rights to make games based on the Batman comics. This might be the little detail that makes all the difference and give us the great Batman game we've been waiting for.
Written by Paul Dini, the game revolves around one night at Arkham Asylum, where the Joker has taken over and every one of Batman's arch-nemesis show up, from the Riddler and Mr. Freeze to Penguin and Scarecrow. The asylum setting is not only composed of one building but instead, consists of an island full of buildings and caves. You are able to navigate through the structures over the course of the night.
As the night and the hours pass, Batman's costume will begin to show the damage done in battle by looking ripped and torn in places (he even grows stubble!). There is a major emphasis on combat and Batman will be able to attack, stun and throw, however, the game also offers puzzles and other investigative work. For example, Batman will be able to x-ray enemies and tag them with important data. He will also be able to gain experience points and earn new gadgets to access new and already-traveled areas.
Batman: Arkham Asylum will be released this summer for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
