Heathers musical on the way

“Dear Diary, my teen-angst bullshit now has a body count."

If you haven’t already accepted that the seminal 1989 black comedy Heathers is the best movie ever, now might be a good time to start coming around to that truth. Andy Fickman (Reefer Madness) has started to develop a musical version of the cult movie, a kind of anti-John Hughes teen flick about the most popular girls at an Ohio high school and the boy who turns one of them on to murder.

The potential cast could include Kristen Bell as Veronica (Winona Ryder in the movie) and Christian Campbell as J.D. (that would be Christian Slater). But THR cautions that they were attached only for a reading this week, not necessarily for the production itself.

The project is still in early stages, but Fickman hopes to have it ready to go up by sometime next year.
