Joshua Davis, contributing writer for Wired, will have his article in the April edition—about a band of diamond thieves—translated into a film set to be produced by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Star Trek).
The article chronicles a crime allegedly carried out by Leonardo Notarbartolo. His band of diamond thieves was accused of breaking into an "impenetrable" vault beneath the Antwerp Diamond Center and making off with $100 million in diamonds that has yet to be recovered. In 2003, Notarbartolo was sentenced to 10 years in a Belgium prison based on circumstantial evidence. He was released just last week.
Davis seems to be making a habit of selling the film rights to his articles. John Heder is set to star in a film based on Davis's experiences as a lightweight sumo wrestler, and his article "La Vida Robot," about four immigrants who invent an underwater robot, is also being turned into a film.
