Justin Townes Earle needs your van for touring

March 2, 2009  |  2:39pm
Tour horror stories come with a musician's territory. If you don't have them, you probably aren't trying hard enough. Newcomer Justin Townes Earle found this out last week when his van broke down in Columbus Saturday night.

Just two days before his sophomore album, Midnight at the Movies, hit stores, Traci Thomas, Earle's manager, sent out an SOS to fans on MySpace:

"Hey everybody!
Justin's van broke down in Columbus last night. The boys are heading back to NYC in a rental but they're going to need a new van or large SUV to tour in. Anyone out there own a car lot or have a van for sale? Any help would be greatly appreciated as you can see the boys have a lot of dates and need something dependable for them to tour in. If you know of anything please email me traci@thirtytigers.com.

Thanks,

Traci"

Earle, who is already an economical touring musician, frequently only bringing band member Cory Younts on the road with him, still has the bulk of his tour remaining with 38 dates in question. And if you've ever seen one of those duo-only sets, you know you'd be missing one hell of an exciting, innovative performance, watching the son of Steve Earle and Younts tear through two-minute, old-school country gems, or sitting mesmerized as the tall, lanky singer/songwriter strums a quiet ballad. Thankfully, as of yet, no dates have been canceled.
