Sure, we all know that Dethklok is the most brutal, not-quite-fictional metal band this side of Cannibal Corpse, but their mastery of the dark arts of shredding won't just magically be passed on to the next generation. Someone has to train the youth in finger tapping, proper care of long hair, and the do's and don't's of spiked leather (one wonders if there's a minimum age on the pain waivers.) And who better than Metalocalypse creator/songwriter Brendon Small, who just announced a tour with the Paul Green Rock Academy?
The Paul Green School of Rock All-Stars was founded in 1998, and continues to be one of the premier performance-based schools for young aspiring rockers. Students learn under the tutelage of Mr. Green and the school's professors, culminating in live gigs to test their chops. Small will be teaching and performing the music of Dethklok as a "guest professor" for this weeklong tour, as well as taking time for a few Q&A sessions at each show.
"It'll basically be me and a bunch of badass 11-to-17-year olds playing music that I
really dig,” said Small in a statement. “I should remind everybody this isn't a Dethklok show—just me and some kids having a blast!”
“I put these shows together with real music fans in mind,” Green added. “Any true
rock fan who comes to our show will be delighted by the deep cuts these kids
take on, the difficult material they tackle, and the love and enthusiasm they
bring to the stage."
Hmmm, deep cuts. Good song title!
