Repent! Oh, ye frequent downloaders. As reported earlier, the second annual Record Store Day has been confirmed for Saturday, April 18, and this time, a slew of bands are releasing exclusives that day to celebrate. Don't look for these at FYE or your outgoing Virgin Megastore; these are exclusive to independently owned record stores.
My Morning Jacket will release a seven-song live EP recorded at two shows—one at a record store, Ear-X-Tacy, and one at Waterfront Park—in the band's hometown of Louisville, Ky. Celebración De La Ciudad Natal will be available in two different formats: CD or a double 10'' vinyl. The tracklisting is as follows:
1. Evil Urges
2. Highly Suspicious
3. Gideon
4. Where To Begin
5. Librarian
6. Phone Went West
7. Dondante
Says the band in two very lengthy but weighty sentences, "We are excited to make this a special release that you can only get at your favorite local independent record store, as now more than ever we all need to take the time to celebrate what our favorite local record stores and businesses mean to us—the value of community/human-to-human, non-internet related physical and spiritual contact, and supporting the hardworking people in your community who strive everyday to keep it unique and keep it local. We are fortunate in our travels to get to see many wonderful things, but one of the most distressing things is the increasing "normalization" of the world and how all these places are starting to look the same—everywhere you look more and more towns are starting to be filled with the same gigantic corporations, and while some of these huge companies undoubtedly provide valuable services, it is so important that we realize that it is our local businesses and people (and natural landscapes, but that’s a different letter) that are what make different towns worth coming to...things you can only get in one place, made and sold by people who believe in what they are doing...people who are trying to keep good weirdness alive in this crazy dome."
But the fun doesn't stop there. Other exclusives that day include: Black Kids 10", Leonard Cohen 7", Elvis Costello/Jenny Lewis split 7", Rivers Cuomo live CD and CD/DVD, Decemberists 7", Bob Dylan 7", Flaming Lips/Black Keys split 7", Flight of the Concords 7", Guided By Voices Hold On Hope reissue with bonus tracks, Iron & Wine live CD, Jane's Addiction 7", Jesus Lizard 7" box set, MC5 7", Mastodon Crack the Skye 180-gram vinyl with 7", New Order 7", Pretenders 7", Queen EP, Radiohead series of vinyl EPs, Smiths 7", two Sonic Youth 7" splits (one with Beck, the other with Jay Reatard), Bruce Springsteen 7", Stooges 7", Sublime 7", Thermals/Thao split 7", Tom Waits/Lucinda Williams split 7" and many, many more. Check out Vintage Vinyl Records and MBV to see more.
Wilco will also release two weeks early its new DVD, Ashes of American Flags.
Collectors, get ready.
