Although puppets have long been a mainstay of film and children's theatre, not too many bands have graced the stage in such a fashion. Sure, Metallica dedicated an album to the Master of Puppets, but something tells us they were referring to something other than strings and marionettes. Enter New Orleans swamp-tech duo Quintron and Miss Pussycat and the pair's host of wise-cracking nutrias and foxes.
Quintron and Miss Pussycat's shows are no Von Trapp home theatre. Instead of yodeling, this duo likes to color their live plays with synthy drums, distorted accordion wheezes and tripped-out disco beats. Mix in a little of the punk-rock attitude the duo's label, Goner, is known for, and you get an idea of what a spectacle a Quintron/Pussycat show can be.
In May, the pair plans to put their hand-held friends to good use. On Saturday, May 2, they'll play a benefit concert at 10 p.m. with proceeds going toward Atlanta's Center for Puppetry Arts. The show will be held at the Center, and tickets are being sold for $15. There will also be a special screening of Miss Pussycat's Trixie and the Treetrunks films at 8 p.m. priced at $5 for Center members and $7 for the general public. To order tickets, visit the Center's website.
