Sean Penn, Jim Carrey, Benicio Del Toro cast as Stooges

That the Farrelly Brothers and MGM are planning on using Jim Carrey and Benecio Del Toro for their upcoming Three Stooges feature shouldn't be a huge surprise. Del Toro’s a highly physical actor, making him a perfect fit for their vein of comedy, while Carrey’s face is made out of silly putty, making him a great fit both this film and perhaps a live-action Tex Avery flick as well. Alongside this, though, they announced that the one confirmed member of the cast is none other than Sean Penn as Larry. Go ahead, cue the music.

Seriously, Sean Penn being cast as one of the Stooges is the type of thing that makes you want to check if this was actually a piece by The Onion, but in fact the story comes from Variety. The film has been in pre-production for more than a decade while the Farrellys have worked out the exact agreement they want for the film. Presumably this involved casting, but as of now, it's hard to say. Production is set to begin in early Fall, with backing from MGM.
