Van Halen next in line for Guitar Hero

It was bound to happen eventually. First there was Aerosmith, then Metallica. Now, in a logical third step towards a trinity of arena-rock and roll mainstays, Van Halen has supposedly been tapped for the next solo Guitar Hero game.

The Joystiq website reports that Activision is working on a new version of the game that would feature the mega band's greatest hits, including "Jump," "Panama" and "Hot for Teacher." Allegedly, the game will also include songs from a few other bands, such as Judas Priest's "Pain Killer," Tenacious D's "Master Exploder" and Weezer's "Dope Nose."

Although no confirmation has been made by Activision, the Van Halen version is said to be out after the release of Guitar Hero: Metallica on March 29.
