There are some things that just naturally make for good video footage. Shirtless men with big hair is one of them. Live shows featuring freak folk's best and brightest is another. Throw in a harp, some alcohol and a touring van, and you've got a promising documentary on your hands.
Or at least that's what Kevin Barker, frontman for Currituck Co., is hoping. During a 2004 tour, Barker captured the ups and downs of San Francisco-based Vetiver, Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom while they trekked across the U.S., on the verge of ascent into the realm of musical notoriety.
The Family Jams features musical performances by all three bands as well as special appearances by Antony & The Johnsons, Espers, The Pleased, Meg Baird and Corndawg. The first public screening took place at the Sarasota Film Festival on April 2 and 3.
