HBO plans movie about 2008 presidential election
HBO already owns the most-anticipated documentary about the 2008 election, but the network has also optioned film rights to the book Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime, due out early next year.
According to Variety, HBO has pivoted toward political material after the success of Recount, its fictionalized film
version of the 2000 election. The network will take a similar approach with this
new movie, with screenwriter Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond) already
aboard to adapt the book.
The movie has no cast yet, but HBO also has another political film, The
Special Relationship, set to star Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid as
Hillary and Bill Clinton. Start the campaign now: Viola Davis for Michelle Obama!
