If you've ever:
a) Dreamed of frolicking around onstage as a lead role in a Broadway musical, b) yearned for those musical numbers to be blessed by Bono himself, or c) spent your alone time pretending to shoot spiderwebs out of your fingers and making out with your Mary Jane pillow, then your stars have aligned.
Though the "Spider-Man on Broadway with a soundtrack penned by Bono" concept that we previously reported sounded like someone picked two completely unrelated pop culture names out of a hat and stuck them together for a good laugh, that doesn't make it any less real. "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" has announced open casting calls in a handful of major cities throughout April and into May. Specifically, they're looking for principals and understudies for the roles of Peter Parker, Mary Jane, and a mysterious "lead female villain."
The musical, which hits Broadway in 2010, will be directed by the Tony Award-winning Julie Taymor. According to BBC, it's estimated to be the most expensive Broadway play ever, shelling out an astounding $40 million. Seriously.
So which part is the right one for you? According to the website, if you're nerdy with understated sex appeal, you're a dead ringer for Parker. But if you happen to possess the qualities of "Sinead O'Connor with a Middle Eastern/Bulgarian/Greek twist," get thee to an audition and start practicing your villain cackle (and please help us understand what that description even means).
The auditions will hit up Orlando, New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago and Austin. More details can be found here.
Oh, and... break a leg.
