Despite the underwhelming box-office numbers and the harsh criticism the movie received during its March release, Director Zack Snyder has confirmed that Watchmen is getting a second chance at the box office and the director's cut will see a limited release this July in New York and Los Angeles.
As previously reported, the
190-minute director's cut will be more violent and will include material from the graphic novel that was cut due to time restrictions. The newly added material includes more background story on the original Nite Owl and the footage of Hollis Mason and his
death. Warner Bros. is hoping it will attract more die-hard fans of the graphic novel and increase the movie's numbers at the box office.
No word on whether the limited release will be expanded to other cities, but the director's cut will be included in the Watchmen DVD, along with several other features.
