Alanis Morissette Joins Cast of Weeds

Jenji Kohan sure has interesting taste in Hollywood women. In her ganja-centric comedy, Weeds, quirky starlets are sprinkled throughout the show as numerously as those little boxes (made of ticky-tacky) that dot the landscape of Agrestic. Now, following in the tracks of doe-eyed Zooey Deschanel and well-heeled hobo Mary-Kate Olsen comes the dark queen of break-up music herself, Alanis Morissette.

Morissette will play the role of the obstetrician charged with taking care of pregnant Nancy Botwin (Mary Louise Parker), Entertainment Weekly reports. Although she is confirmed to appear in at least seven episodes during the fifth season, there is a possibility that she'll reappear in the sixth season as well.

Although Morissette is mostly known for her music, she does have a few film credits. Her role in Dogma, for one, in which she played God. A silent, smiling, cartwheeling God. She also nabbed brief television roles in Nip/Tuck and Sex and the City. Even so, only time will tell if Morissette can take on the weighty role of advising flighty, drug-dealing mama Nancy. Viewers will find out when the season debuts on June 8.
