Free Summer concerts often entail some sort of cheesy Eagles cover band
and many large, multicolored quilts. Of course, Brooklyn does things differently. Celebrate Brooklyn!, the hip borough's beloved free Summer festival series, is offering a pretty stellar lineup.
The festival, which will also include film screenings and dance performances, will offer an array of cool, free stuff to see from June 8-Aug. 8. And by "cool, free stuff," we mean a live performance from Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, which will be the opening concert of the festival. Other music notables to see at Celebrate Brooklyn! include Blonde Redhead, Crystal Stilts, Dr. Dog, Deer Tick and even a special family concert with They Might Be Giants.
Celebrate Brooklyn! funds the free concerts with special low-price benefit shows (and
with your suggested donation of $3 at the door... cough, cough). MGMT
, Animal Collective and TV on the Radio
are just a handful of the other artists that will rock out in the name of free music.
